Flomax for treating enlarged prostate
Flomax is a drug that is given for treating enlarged prostate. The drug belongs to alpha-adrenergic blockers and it acts by relaxing the muscles in the veins and arteries. Hen the muscles are relaxed more blood reaches the region, which gives you relief.
The recommended dosage is only one Flomax capsule a day. It has to be taken with a full glass of water about 30 minutes before food. Unless your doctor has not recommended, do not take Flomax for longer periods and also do not go for larger amounts.
You can take the missed dose when you remember it. But skip the missed one if it is time for your regular dose. If you have stopped taking Flomax for a long period, then you have to contact the doctor who may prescribe a new prescription.
The drug may not be prescribed if you are taking any alpha medicines or if you have allergies to tamsulosin. The doctors do not advice Flomax if you have prostrate cancer.
If you are going to have cataract operation, you should have to tell your surgeon beforehand that you are on Flomax medication. Flomax can affect the pupils during a cataract operation. It is also advised not to perform any hard task after taking Flomax as the drug can cause dizziness. Avoid Alcohol while taking Flomax.
Hives, breathing problems and swelling are some of the allergic reactions noticed with Flomax. Some persons may also come across severe side effects like painful erection that lasts about four hours or more and fainting.
